Tomatoes Ripening

I just got back from 2 lovely weeks at my family's house in Sonoma County. They have an amazing year round garden, and even though it's California, things get sparse in winter. This winter is especially cold, and the frost that came suddenly last month wiped out what was left of the outdoor tomatoes. Mom tried to save them by picking the big green ones immediately and hanging the cherry tomato plants in the shed to let them ripen. We spent a whole morning chopping tomatoes that had ripened just enough after a week or 2 of sitting. We put them in the crockpot with fresh herbs to make tomato sauce to freeze.
