Travel into the wild with these meticulously designed furoshiki (wrapping cloth) by artist duo Takeshi Matsunaga and Chie Takai of Kata Kata. The friendly gorilla lets the birds eat from his palm, under the hanging tree full of bright fruit and leaves.
Both katazome and chusen methods are used to create this furoshiki. Katazome is a complicated stenciling and printing process involving natural materials such as persimmon juice, seaweed, water, and wind. Chusen is a Meiji-era technique involving hand-dying each furoshiki to produce varied and unique results. Check out this blog post on Hello! Because of its large size, this furoshiki works great as a wrapping cloth, bag, tablecloth, or hang these special pieces on your walls for festive animal-themed decorations.
Please note: colors may run during the first couple of washes, so be sure to wash separately with cold water to avoid color bleeding.
