Umami Mart Registry

Like ochoko and guinomi, hirahai is a type of sake drinking vessel, wide and shallow, resembling a little plate. Hirahai are great for enjoying the texture and character of a sake as it is with little interference of vessel-shape on the aroma. This is an ubiquitous piece of sakeware, but on a signature Kimura stem made from one piece of glass. Wild.

We first discovered the Stem Hirahai on our 2022 visit to the Kimura Showroom in Tokyo, along with its partner, the Stem Tokkuri. We were floored by the singular beauty and utter indulgence of these pieces - it felt like they were made for Umami Mart!

Note: While we recommend pairing this glass with the Stem Tokkuri, these pieces are sold separately.

Established in 1910, Kimura Glass Company in Eastern Tokyo has been making beautiful handcrafted glassware that only craftsmen with decades of experience can create. We chose a select few pieces from the Kimura collection that reflects the Umami Mart lifestyle – cocktail and sake pieces, of course!
