This genshu (cask strength) shochu is chill-filtered, then aged for 10 years in an oak barrel, expanding the palate to include a depth and complexity only achievable through aging. Get notes of butterscotch and caramel, reminiscent of bourbons with a high wheat mashbill. We also get mineral and charcoal, thanks to the wood.
With only 20,000 bottles in production each year, this limited bottle is named after capitão, the Portugese word for Captain, referring to the trading house director in Hirado, Nagasaki, during the sakoku (isolation) era (17th-19th centuries).
Packaged in a luxe black gift box and ornate gold trim, this shochu would make an excellent gift for a whisky enthusiast who wants to stray from the beaten path. Also includes a bottle keep name tag!
