This luxurious genshu (cask-strength) awamori is a blend of kusu (aged distillates) ranging from 5 to 15 years old. Each awamori is rested in stainless steel tanks until they reach the appropriate age and then are blended. The resulting kusu are then finished in an extremely rare antique Shamu Nanban pot, of which there is only one at the distillery. This makes Sakura Yamakawa a distinct expression and highly limited.
Get intense nutty, chocolatey, and floral aromas of violet, vanilla, and toast on the nose, followed by a surprisingly crisp, yet palate-embracing chewy texture and notes of mochi and purple plum accented by sweet florals and a long finish.
Pour yourself a bit of this in a snifter to accentuate the aroma. It should go nicely with a fat piece of tiramisu.
