Sake and Shochu Gumi

Said to be the oldest work of manga, the Choju Jinbutsu Giga (or Choju Giga for short), are a set of scrolls from the 12th century. Belonging to Kosanji Temple in Kyoto, these masterpieces depict satirical views of village life with various animals replacing humans.

There are various scenes in this tenugui, all playful and in good humor, incorporating cats, rabbits, wild boar, monkeys, foxes, and frogs. The largest scene is from the third scroll, where monkeys, frogs, and rabbits travel by oxcart.
