The backstory behind this whale-shaped knife is pretty delightful. Tetsu Yamashita, a master sickle maker, was asked to create a blunt-end blade for children to safely sharpen pencils. He came up with this knife with a rounded end that looks like a sperm whale – a playful and ingenious design solution!

Handmade in Kōchi Prefecture by Tosa, these Sperm Whale Knives are a wonderful gift for artists who like to hand-sharpen pencils, whittlers, and people who just like cute things. Whale, what are you waiting for?
