Sake and Shochu Gumi

The first time Yoko tried this was at an onsen in August of 2019 in Ashoro-gun Hokkaido (see photos). She fell in love with this slightly hazy sake that incorporates some of the sediment in the tank that lends a slightly creamy texture with crisp acidity and a signature Otokoyama dry finish.

Yamazaki-san from Otokoyama brewery visited us in Oakland in July of 2024 and said that this sake is only available locally in parts of Hokkaido and for export in the U.S. Lucky us! He also told us that they contemplated changing the original label from 1986 but decided to stick to the Showa aesthetic. We approve.

Drink this chilled on a cool tatami mat after a hot soak in a tub or rigorous swim. This is a summer exclusive!
