Sake and Shochu Gumi

Join us for a special afternoon with Sylvan Mishima Brackett from San Francisco's lauded restaurant, Rintaro. We'll start with a discussion with the author and restaurant owner about the book, Brackett's journey as a chef, and about his approach to food and design. The evening will progress into a light supper, with participants enjoying Brackett's meticulously crafted bentos. Enjoy Rintaro's house-made umeshu as a refreshment.

Umami Mart and Rintaro have been friends for over 15 years. Both Yoko and Kayoko worked for Sylvan, when he was running Peko Peko, his catering company that preceded Rintaro. In the early days of Umami Mart, we offered bentos from Peko Peko a few days a week at our shop when we were still located downtown. We still remember when people would call the shop frantically asking if there were still bentos left for the day! They were works of art that were as delicious as they looked.

With Rintaro celebrating 10 years this year, we are grateful for this friendship that has lasted for over a decade!
