UM Book Club: The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

Written in 2011, this novel is written by Japanese American author Julie Otsuka. Set in the 1900s, it is about Japanese picture brides immigrating to the U.S. and so much more. Inspired by historical accounts of several women, it chronicles their arrival, struggles with their relationships at home, challenges at work, and the gut-wrenching experience of being sent to the camps.
