Matcha whisk holders are called kusenaoshi or "cowlick corrector." These holders* make sure each tine of the matcha whisk keeps its shape. It's important for matcha whisk tines to maintain even spacing so that the consistency of the resulting matcha is smooth and with no clumps.

This holder is made in Seto City, a place famous for stoneware artisans.
