Umami Mart Gift Guide

While they are makers of wild, sticky and nutty unfiltered barley shochus, Yanagita Shuzo brings us an expression more tame than most, yet so wild in its own rite. Koma gets distilled at a lower temperature, preserving some of the more delicate florals and distinct minerality coming from the barley and barley koji used in the fermentation.

We get exquisite cinnamon, jasmine, and powdered sugar aroma with an unmistakable note of wet clay. The palate has a buttery texture with a sweet finish and just a touch of white chocolate.

Enjoy this gentle gem on the rocks or with soda with yakitori or simmered fish.
