Meet the Maker: Fukumitsuya Sake Brewery
Friday, July 25, 2025
We are welcoming Fukumitsuya Sake Brewery's own Ayako Nakamura for the first time at our shop in Oakland! This Friday afternoon event will feature a flight of three of their latest expressions including the Kuroobi Yuyu, Kuroobi Dodo, and a very special 10 year-old sake called Momotose.
Join us as we spend the afternoon with Nakamura, who is the export manager of the brewery based in Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture since 1625. Fukumitsuya prides itself in making junmai sakes only and is particularly interested in how aging affects sake.
We will be pouring a flight of the following sakes and serve some morsels from the brewery including popcorn dusted with Umami Powder and a special Hon Mirin Yokan with Dried Fruit. Meet Nakamura-san and chat about her sakes!
About the sakes:
Kuroobi Yuyu Tokubetsu Junmai is an all-around crowdpleaser that will give you a good idea of what Fukumitsuya is all about. Balancing a clean, dry texture with light flavors, this is your go-to for food pairing and sipping chilled or at room temp on the porch.
Kuroobi Dodo Yamahai Junmai highlights the bold flavor of rice while delivering a crisp finish. Enjoy the umami and acidity thanks to the yamahai method. We are featuring this sake for Sakqueso for Sake Gumi members later in the year, and this is your chance at a sneak peek!
10 Year Aged Momotose Junmai is a golden sake that is bottled to "wow." Perfect as a sipper after dinner on its own or with a bit of cake, this sweeter sake exhibits complex notes of sherry, dried fruit, and honey. This is a rare opportunity to try this sake that is otherwise not available any where else in the U.S.!
