Ranbiki 5 Year Aged Barley Shochu (BTL 720ml)
New to the American market, Ranbiki 5 year barrel aged barley shochu hails from Ebisu Distillery in Fukuoka. Fifth generation toji and blender Kentaro Tanaka of Ebisu says, “We are a distillery specialized exclusively in aged shochu, shipping only shochu that has been aged for three years or more. Shochu can be delicious even without aging, depending on how it is made, but we believe that aging further amplifies its appeal, and we are committed to crafting aged shochu based on that belief."
The word Ranbiki is the Japanese pronunciation of the Portugese word for alembic, a type of pot still that is usually made of copper.
Golden in hue with notes of butterscotch and cocoa with a hint of smoke. Enjoy oyuwari or on-the-rocks. Find our interview with Mr. Tanaka on our blog!
