Do you have members-only events? Do members get discounts on events?
Yes, we have exclusive events for members!
The Gumi Gala happens every December for members only. You get a discount on everything in the shop (a chance to finish all of your holiday shopping!), plus sip complimentary sakes, shochus, and whiskies – all while mingling with other members. This is an annual bash that is open to members only and is guaranteed a fantastic time!
Gold members are invited a semi-annual tasting event with Sake Director Yoko Kumano, The Golden Hour.
Yes, members get discounts! Members get first dibs on event announcements. Many of our exclusive events fill up with members only (like Sakqueso). In addition to priority notifications, members get discounts on events.
How often are the club shipments sent?
Shipments arrive monthly and are available for pick up at our Oakland shop or can be conveniently delivered right to your door (FedEx or UPS fees apply). Shipments are sent by the first Saturday of every month, which is also drop day. Your credit card will be charged the day that you submit your order for your first delivery/ pick-up, then every month on the 1st thereafter. The bill date can not be changed, it will always be the 1st of the month.
Do you ship to all states in the U.S.?
We can not deliver alcoholic products to SD, UT, MS, AL, VT, and KY. We can ship to all other states.
How much does a membership cost?
Although there is no membership fee, we ask for a minimum commitment of six months worth of sake shipments. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
I am going away on vacation, can I pause a shipment?
Yes, you can pause a subscription for up to three months. If you foresee going away for longer than that, we advise you to cancel your subscription and resign up when you return.
Are the sake selections customizable?
Unfortunately, they are not. We pre-select and order bottles especially for members up to six months in advance. However, if members need assistance with selecting sakes you can contact Yoko (Co-founder and Sake Director at Umami Mart) directly.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel your membership by emailing us at sake@umamimart.com. If you cancel before the 15th of the month, you will be cancelled for the next month. If you cancel after the 15th, you will get one more shipment for the following month, and your membership will be cancelled on the month thereafter.
Please note that we ask for a minimum commitment to the club of six months. After this, you may cancel whenever you wish.
Who am I supporting with my membership?
Your membership keeps our small business sustainable! With a large community of members, it assures that we can keep our doors open and our lights on through all the peaks and valleys of running a small business.
Your membership also supports the sake makers and rice farmers to continue the tradition of sake-making. We value the passion and commitment that sake makers put into their craft and your membership goes a long way to support their efforts.
