Umami Mart Gift Guide

Jake Myrick and Noriko Kamei started Sequoia Sake in San Francisco in 2015, and they specialize in namas (unpasteurized sakes). Lucky for us, these namas get delivered fresh as they get hand-delivered from right across the Bay. Sequoia Genshu is lively, fruity, and bold; we enjoy creating cocktails with this immensely but it is fantastic on the rocks too!

Sequoia's Nama Genshu uses 60% polished organic m205 Calrose grown by Mike VanDyke. Sequoia Sake takes special pride in controlling the rice from seed to final product. Myrick says, "The key is single-source, single-origin organic rice."

Genshu is a type of sake that is "tank-strength" meaning it is bottled straight out of the sake tanks. Sake is usually diluted with water before bottling to bring the ABV down to anywhere around 9-16%. With genshu, you'll get an ABV around 17-20%, which lends itself to bolder, more robust flavors, that are great sipper on their own but also shine in cocktails.

Note: We can ship this sake, but due to the nature of shipping, please note that fluctuations in temperature can affect the freshness of the drink, and we will always recommend picking up locally when possible. Please proceed with shipping at your own risk.
