Native to Japan, sansho is the milder, citrus-forward cousin of Sichuan peppercorns. The fresh pods are a bright green and have a distinct floral aroma. Like Sichuan pepper, sansho delivers a tongue-tingling effect, albeit much less intense than the former.

You will most likely see sansho dusted on unagi (eel) and yakitori in Japan. We also love sprinking it on udon and grilled meats.

Sansho is hard to source, therefore, rarely seen outside of Japan. We are proud to carry real sansho!
