Sake and Shochu Gumi

Welcome to the Umami Mart Kids Corner! There are so many hand-made children's toys and nostalgic motifs we come across during our travels in Japan, we couldn't resist making a little spot for them at our store. We've brought in some fun new accessories for children (and youthful adults).

TANUKI DARUMA
The Daruma (derived from the word Dharma) doll, is a talisman that serves as a good luck symbol. Each of these Shirakawa Tanuki Daruma are hand-painted with an adorable set of eyes, ears, and nose on the front and tail on its backside.

RETRO TREASURES TENUGUI
Depicting traditional toys from the bygone era in Japan (Kewpie!), this adorable, all-purpose tenugui makes a perfect burp cloth for babies! This quick-drying towel is woven in Kyoto and dyed, color-by-color, for an off-set look. Hang it on your wall for decoration or use in your kitchen to dry off dishes or hands.

KOKESHI J-POP CHOPSTICKS SET
This quirky set of five chopsticks depicts the best in J-Pop kitsch: Samurai Man, Karate Kid, Yakuza Guy, Ninja, and Sumo Wrestler. Great for kids learning how to use chopsticks, or your SMAP-obsessed pals.

MANEKI NEKO FUROSHIKI
Maneki neko beckons good fortune and brings luck to wherever they sit. Studying for finals? Bidding on a house in the Bay Area? Opening a new business? Let these charming neko (cats) bring you the best of luck in this colorfully hand-dyed on this 100% cotton furoshiki cloth.
