I traveled about an hour south of Shanghai to Fengjing Ancient Town, which is a preserved town cross crossed with waterways (similar to Venice) that is over 1,500 years old.

Pure bred Fengjing black pigs are famous for their well-marbled meat and there was a small museum dedicated to the history of ham hock-making. A wax figure demonstrates the finished product.

Unfortunately it smelled pretty gross in Fengjing (the sewage situation seemed ancient too) and I couldn't work up an appetite to eat anything while I was there.
