Sake and Shochu Gumi

Happy Shochu’sday and International Shochu Day!

Greetings from Yosemite Valley, where it snowed for the first time this season, which means cozying up to the huge fireplace with a book and some imo shochu. Today I drink Yamaneko by @kurokihonten_osuzuyama , a shochu I’m proud to say we prodded the distributor to bring into the States. Persistence has served me well in my life, as you know by now.

Made with Joy White sweet potatoes and white koji, this shochu is perfect oyuwari style for its lush, tropical nose, while spicy on the palate. I find that ice makes this shochu a bit cutting, and some hot water really mellows it out. It is a lovely tipple at the end of a long day.

We want to thank you all for your support and enthusiasm for our shochu program. Yoko, Ian, and I work hard to bring you the best drinks Japan has to offer. Please always let us know when you want us to carry any specific bottles- we will hunt them down, like we did for Yamaneko!

Meow,
Kayoko
