This is a very special shochu by Kagoshima's Komaki Jozo that just hit our shelves. Beni Ikko Sweet Potato Shochu uses 100% imo! This means they inoculated the koji onto the imo, not rice, as they usually do for imo shochus. This creates an intensely umamiful drink with a long tail: I get licorice, coconut, and Ian says "doughy pancakes and tobacco." You've gotta try this!
Drink this on the rocks or oyuwari (with hot water), with asari gohan (rice steamed with clams), while Stevie Wonder sings in the background.
