Sake and Shochu Gumi

Last weekend on a warm Sunday evening in the woods we hosted A Forest Fiesta in honor of the recent opening of the Umami Mart shop in Oakland.  Guests who came were contributors and supporters of Umami Mart and all brought amazing things to share. Mike made some amazing pao de queijo aka brazilian cheese bread (I need to try this recipe!);Kishi brought his delicious home made cheez-its (based on Mark Bittman’s recipe); and Anders made his incredible Strawberry Pavlova for dessert.

Umami Mart started as a food blog in 2007 and I am lucky to have been a contributor since the beginning --  it has blossomed not only into a brick-and-mortar shop, but into a community of cooks, artists and friends.

  • It was such an amazing day, so idyllic like taken from a movie. (you should totally rent out your place to movies)
I constantly felt the clock ticking when I was there – counting down to your departure again. I didn’t want to go home and leave this wonderful, warm scented forest.

Must be great to have a house where you’re always sure to throw a great party and have your guests fall instantly in love and feel at home.

Also, my sister thinks it looks like Joni Mitchell lives and writes her songs there.
