Kintaro Barley Shochu
This is one of my favorites on our shelves – Kintaro Barley Shochu is made with roasted barley so it's super nutty and chocolatey. I get a strong kurogoma (black sesame) note. Nishiyoshida is a beloved distillery in Fukuoka, that has been around since 1893. We carry their other two shochus available in the States, Tsukushi Black and Tsukushi White, but the Kintaro is super special. There's no other shochu like it!
What's more, this shochu just won the coveted Double Gold Award at the SF World Spirits Competition. Congratulations to Nishiyoshida Shuzo! 👏👏👏
I like this mizuwari (with water) on the rocks. It's quite bold so can be diluted so you can have many. Oyuwari (with hot water) is also super cozy. Pair with yakitori or a can of smoked oysters or a hotdog. Play some Max Roach on your speakers. Get groovin'.
