Postcard from Rio de Janeiro: Coco from Ipanema

Coconut water alongside the Ipanema beach. Coconuts are cut in front of your eyes along the beaches of Rio for 3-4 reais ($2). The water is clear and has a tinge of saltiness to it.

  • One of the few things you could get from roadside vendors in India, because the only source of contamination is the vendor’s knife and you drink the water with a freshly unpacked straw. Can’t eat the fruit, though - aforementioned vendor’s knife. One of my favs on a warm summer’s day.
