Sake and Shochu Gumi

Umamiventures are BACK! The last field trip was at the TCHO factory back in March 2011, remember? Wow, it has been WAY TOO LONG.

For years I have been trying to organize an event with a honey producer, and the time has finally come! We're proud to announce a special tour with East Bay Urban Bees on Sat 10/13.

Betsy Belding and Miguel Rivas are proprietors of East Bay Urban Bees, whom I met during my bartending days at Camino. They have hives all around Oakland (Rockridge, Temescal, Piedmont and even the Camino rooftop!), and we've been proudly selling their honey here at the shop since we've opened. The honey has been really popular, and people always ask about the differences between the variations.

Well... why don't we taste them? And while we're at it, meet the bees that produce the sweet nectar? Betsy and Miguel are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to bee anatomy, and their production cycles. So let's get together and taste their honey, tour one of the hives, and learn about bees! Join us!

WHAT: Event includes an introduction on bees and honey production, tour of a bee hive (meet the queen bee, perhaps?), and honey tasting.

WHEN: Saturday 10/13 at 1pm + 3pm

WHERE: Miguel's hive in Piedmont. Address will be disclosed to ticket holders prior to the event. For those who are wary of heights (like me!), please note that we will have to climb a ladder to get to the hive.

TICKETS: $35

Due to the sensitivity of the bees and bee gear limitations, we are limited to 10 guests per session. Get your tickets now to reserve your spot! Don't miss this rare and intimate opportunity before the bees go hide out for the cold season.
