Sixth Annual Japan Beer Fest with The Trappist: The Sansho Edition
We're super excited to announce our Sixth Annual Japan Beer Fest with The Trappist! Are you all ready for this?!
This year, we're celebrating sansho, a tingling Japanese pepper featured in several drinks and ingredients from Japan.
The star of this year's Japan Beer Fest will be the very special Ruben's Sansho Saison, a collaboration with Oakland's own Old Kan Beer & Co and The Trappist. They used cascade and centennial hops to accentuate the zesty, citrusy nature of the sansho, finishing with sansho in whirlpool, and using a Belgian Saison yeast for fermentation.
As always, we will serve over 25+ Japanese craft beers including Hitachino, Baird Brewing, and Coedo Brewery on tap! Plus, Trappist is making a Beer Slushie yet again this year! What is a Beer Slushie, you ask? Essentially, it’s a frozen “head” of foam that floats atop the beer, like a soft serve topper. The slushie will be made with Hitachino Yuzu Lager.
Oakland’s favorite punk rock restaurant, Aburaya serving Fried Chicken Sandwiches with sansho BBQ sauce and hotsauce!
And don't miss a special sweet treat of Sansho Cookies by Oakland's Gold Bakery!
Although the festivities will take place at The Trappist, Umami Mart will be open during Japan Beer Fest, so you can shop during the event. See you there!
