Our neighbors recently invited us over for kebab night. In California in February, it's easy to grill outside and I'm convinced everything tastes better when cooked outdoors! This was a seriously flavorful meal: beef kebab served with a plate of herbs (radishes, mint, green onions), homemade baba ganoush (made from grilled whole eggplants), rice purposefully browned on the bottom of the pan producing delicious crunchy bits, yogurt, and then fresh fruit for dessert. Huge sheets of lavash bread kept everything warm as it came off the grill. Also, I am now obsessed with the red powdered spice called sumac, which was used to season the meat.

This looks SO good! kebab with ground beef is called Kebab Koobideh— my husband loves it so much, he suggested naming our puppy koobideh, but that just felt wrong for a variety of reasons.
Erin, you have Persian neighbors, ha I love it! God do I miss Persian food. It’s interesting the way your neighbors grill the tomatoes because the traditional way is to grill them whole without slicing them up. Then I’d mash the charred tomato into the rice, oh man so good!
Payman, totally thought of you throughout this whole meal! It was Soooooo delish! I’ll be in NYC in a couple weeks and want to come to PDT when you are working!!
It all looks wonderful. Love to do it. Where do I get unusual skewers? The long flat ones.
