Recently a surge of concept stores and boutiques have marked our larger cities, the world over, from Paris to São Paulo, all bringing a bit of something new and curated. Concept shops like Paris' overtly "cool" Colette throbs with waves of tourists, often fall short as many want to escape the untz-untz pouring from the speakers upon entry. Yet others like Haute Marais district's Merci boast much larger spaces that invite you to explore the space or relax in a corner in one of their three cafes and read from their library. Get cozy.

Merci offers an impressive selection of books, clothing, home goods, furniture, craftily designed everything, cafes, and a seriously well thought out little restaurant serving a nurturing lentil soup.

  • This place looks cool. Will have to hunt it out next time I’m in Paris. I too didn’t really ‘get’ Colette when I visited, although it was packed.
