212

Aisha Sharpe and Willy Shine, the founders of Contemporary Cocktails, created this refreshing springtime drink. The name is both a reference to the classic Manhattan area code as well as a clever play on proportions.

212
2 oz Partida Reposado Tequila
1 oz Aperol
2 oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice

Tools: shaker, strainer
Glassware: chilled, ice-filled Collins glass
Garnish: orange twist

Method: Shake ingredients with ice, strain into a Collins glass, and add garnish.

The 212 is a simple, refreshing, and easy to make drink. The Aperol gives this drink such a great, dry flavor profile which makes it the perfect aperitif to give you the munchies--it is 4/20, of course. It's so simple it's stoner friendly. But because it’s such a simple drink with few ingedients, it’s all the more essential to use high quality components.

If you can’t afford Partida Reposado that’s understandable, but I don’t advise skimping on the grapefruit juice. Fresh squeezed juice is critical here, and you want to use ruby red for the subtle sweetness it provides, because there’s not much sugar coming from the other ingredients. But with fresh ruby red juice you’ll have a drink with just the requisite balancing sweetness.

Happy Stoner Day!
