Umami Mart Spotlight: Atelier Dion Yunomi (Teacups)
We are extremely excited to present yunomi (teacups) exclusively made for us by our dear friends Jay + Rie of Atelier Dion. They have been running their ceramic studio in West Oakland since 2010, and for years we've been in conversation with them to make something just for Umami Mart. Our wish has finally been granted.
Made of white stoneware and individually hand-thrown, the teacup shapes evoke classic Japanese yunomi styles. They designed three different styles of cups, all distinctive and uniquely modern.
The sleek cup
The curvy cup. Have you ever seen anything as sexy as this?
The dainty cup. Super cute!
The subtle glaze highlights the color of tea. Since each cup is hand thrown, they all have subtle variations in shapes and angles. They are a joy to hold and to drink from.
To celebrate the launch of the tea cups, last week we invited Bicycle Coffee to come out and set up their incredible coffee bike.

Rie + Jay Dion
Jay and I worked together at Ippuku, and we would always talk during our shifts together about collaborating together for Umami Mart. It is a true pleasure to have these yunomi at our shop, and we hope to continue to build a collection with Atelier Dion in the future.
